- Earl W. Wolcott Sr.
Retired steamfitter was amateur boxer
SANBORN - Earl W. Wolcott Sr., 78, of Saunders Settlement Road, died Saturday (Aug. 3, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Cheektowaga on Oct. 30, 1917, the son of Horace I. and Grace L. (LupoId) Wolcott. He moved to the Sanborn area as a child. In the 1930s, he was a Golden Gloves boxer. On July 6, 1940, he married the former Winifred Andalora, who died on Feb. 25, 1995. Mr. Wolcott was employed as a steamfitter through Steamfitter's Local 395, for various local contractors before retiring in 1977. He later operated a bait business on Saunders Settlement Road for several years. His hobbies included bowling, trapping, fishing and rockhounding. Mr. Wolcott was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Co. He is survived by three sons, Robert Wolcott, Earl W. Wolcott Jr. and Grant L. Wolcott, all of Sanborn; two daughters, Sharon Godding of Niagara Falls and Dawn Wine of Burnsvtlle, W.Va.; four brothers, Carl Wolcott of Sugar Grove, Pa., Horace I. Wolcott and Clyde Wolcott, both of Lockport, and Robert Wolcott of Tennessee; three sisters, Edna Peach of Zephyrhills, Fla., Jane Patterson of Lockport and Bonnie Brown. of Newfane; 17, grandchildren; nine great~grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the stepson of the late Dorothy Fix Wolcott, and brother of the late George Wolcott, Winifred Consla, Florence Fix and Carol J. Haggerty. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.rn. Tuesday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. The Rev. Donald Propeck will conduct services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.
