- Edna Shaw Anderson of Middleport, NY, passed peacefully at home as she wished, with loved ones close by, on February 15, 2017. Edna was a lifelong resident of Middleport. She was a graduate of Middleport High School, and earned a teaching degree at Brockport Teachers College and taught in the Royalton Hartland Central School district for over 40 years. She was the very first kindergarten teacher in the new school district and taught grades K-6 as a full-time and substitute teacher in Gasport and Middleport elementary schools. She married Richard F. Anderson (deceased), also of Middleport, in 1946.
Edna was an active member of her local church, Home Demonstration Club, Cookie Cutter Club and an avid bridge player. She enjoyed sharing history through HISTOP with students after she retired. She also helped to establish a thrift store for women returning to the work force. Edna is survived by her four children, Rick (Naomi), Paul (Kathleen), Mark (Mary) and Karin (Patty); six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Clark and Lora Rodriguez; predeceased by her brother, James Shaw; and sister, Elnor Fiock.
Edna wished to thank her many caregivers: Niagara Hospice, the Bush Family, the Walkers, Lori Haseley, Shirley Jenks and many other friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 2800 Quaker Road, Gasport on Saturday, February 25th at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, Edna requested donations be made to Niagara Hospice, Quaker Road Methodist Church or the Middleport Free Library.
