Erwin L. (Dutch) Johnson, 68,
of 613 Calvert St., a meat cutter
for several chain stores and
markets in Rome most of his
life, died yesterday in a Rome
hospital after a long illness.
For the past six years he had
been custodian for the Mid-York
Library System at Jervis Li-
brary until it moved to Utica
three weeks ago.
A Rome native, he was born
Feb. 2, 1898, son of Gilbert L.
and Grace A. Mahaney Johnson,
and attended schools here. On
July 28, 1919, in Port Leyden,
he married the former Flora
Briggs.
They lived for a few years in
Port Leyden and Boonville, and
the rest of their marrid lives
in Rome.
Mr. Johnson was a former
member of the Roman Lodge,
F&AM, was a Shriner and a
32nd Degre Mason.
Surviving with his wife are a
son, Arnold E. Johnson, Rome;
a sister, Mrs Dewey (Geral-
dean) Wiley, Rome; a brother,
Clark G. Johnson, Frankfort
Center; six grandchildren, Den-
nis, Johnson, Ohio, N.Y.; Benda
Johnson, Poland, N.Y.; Cindy
Ann, Ben Scott, Pamela Jean
and Robbie Cass Johnson, all of
Rome, and an uncle, Fred Ma-
haney, Lyons Falls.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 1:30 at the Maartin
J. Nunn Funeral Home with the
Rev. James R. Little, associate
pastor of the First Methodist
Church, officiating. Burial will
be in Rome Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 today and tomorrow
at the funeral home.
