LOCKPORT-A retired Simonds employe, John
P. Arter, 65, of 179 Church St., died today (Feb. 4,
1966) in Lockport Memorial Hospital a short time
after his admission.
The fire department first
aid squad was called to his
home at 12:53 a.m. after he
suffered difficulty -breathing
and assisted him with
an inhalator for 20 minutes
before he was taken to the
hospital. He had been in
failing health recently.
Born Oct 25, 1900, in
Pennsylvania, the son of
Lafayette and Annie Troupe
Arter, he bad lived here the
last 45 years. He had been
employed for 26 years as
an electrician at Simonds
Saw & Steel Co. here, until
his retirement last October.
He was a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church
and United Steel Workers
Local 2857.
Surviving are his wife,
Clara E. Lemke Arter; a
son, Arnold B. Arter, Lockport;
five grandchildren;
three .brothers, Howard L.
Arter, Lockport, David W.
and Wilbur A. Arter, Broadview,
Mont.; two sisters,
Mrs. Ellen Carlin, South
Daytona, Fla., and Mrs.
Stella Hackleman, Denver,
Colo., and several nieces
and nephews.
B e g i n n i n g Saturday,
friends may call from 2-5
and 7-9 p.m. at the Prudden
«nd Kandt Funeral
Home. A service will be
conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday
by Rev, Ernest E.
Heyer, pastor of Trinity
Lutheran Church. Burial
will be in Cold Springs
Cemetery.
