LOCKPORT - Howard L.
Arter, 67, of 142 Chestnut St.,
died at Lockport Memorial
Hospital Tuesday (Dec. 2, 1969)
after a long illness.
A native of Augustaville, Pa.,
he was born Nov. 29, 1902, the
son of Lafayette and Annie
Troupe Arter and came to
Lockport in the early 1920s.
He was employed at the for-
mer Simonds Saw and Steel Co.,
and for the past 25 years work-
ed for Harrison Radiator
Division, General Motors Corp.
He was a member of Emma-
nuel United Methodist Church
and served on the official board
of that church and on the board
of ushers.
He was a member of the
United Lodge IOOF 98 and was
past noble grand of the lodge.
He was also a member of
Niagara Union Escarpment 19
and the Lockport Lodge 73,
F&AM.
He is survived by his widow,
Dorothy Curchin Arter; two
daughters, Mrs. Kent (Joan)
Crea and Mrs. Albert (Barbara)
Bernard, both of Lockport; a
brother, David Arter of Byron,
N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Stella
Hackelman of Lucerne Valley,
Calif., and Mrs. ellen Carlin,
also of Byron, and five
grandchildren.
Friends may call today from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at
the Prudden and Kandt Funeral
Home. Services will be held at
11 a.m. Thursday at Enmanuel
United Methodist Church. The
Rev. Robert M. Rowsam will
officiate.
Burial will be in Cold Spring
cemetery. Memorials may be
made to the American Cancer
Fund.
