Frank A. Forgione, 87, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Marianna (Cammarata) Forgione.
Frank was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. Afterwards he attended Cornell University, and in 1949 graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. On May 4, 1957, he married Carmella B. (Baccelli) Forgione at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Following their marriage they moved to Lewiston, NY, where he has lived until the present time. Frank served in the New York State National Guard and achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel. From 1949 until 1951, he also worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. In 1951, Frank became a managing partner of his family's business, Forgione Lumber Co. in Niagara Falls. In 1979, he was named the City of Niagara Falls Engineer and worked at the Waste Water Plant as a Utilities Engineer. In October 1992, he was appointed Director of the Niagara Falls Drinking Water Plant where he worked until his retirement in 1996.
Frank was a longtime active member and charter member of the Upper Mt. Volunteer Fire Company in Lewiston, NY. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, as well as a member of their Holy Name Society. Frank was also a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 247 in Niagara Falls, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the NYS Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Military Engineers, and member of the University of Notre Dame Buffalo and Western New York Alumni Club with whom he was a member of their board of directors, and in 1982, was the recipient of their Man of the Year Award for his faithful and continuous service to the Alumni Club. He was a longtime member of the Niagara Falls YMCA where he would swim daily. Frank was also multilingual and spoke several languages fluently.
Mr. Forgione's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence for the love and compassionate care given to Frank.
In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, Mr. Forgione is survived by three daughters, Mary (Peter) Vogt of Schenectady, NY, Nancy (Paul Bercow) Forgione of Katonah, NY and Lisanne Forgione of Albany, NY; one grandson, Christopher Vogt; two sisters, Mary (Robert) Moore of California and Anita (Anthony) Tavano of Tennessee; one brother, Anthony (Lois) Forgione of the Town of Niagara, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother, Armand (late Elizabeth) Forgione; and two sisters, Joan (late Joseph) Moraca, Delores Pietrocarlo; and was the son-in-law of the late John and Bessie Baccelli.
Visitation will be on Friday from 3-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Saturday, January 4th at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. The Knights of Columbus Council #247 will conduct a service on Friday at 5:00 PM at the funeral chapel. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to a charity of one's choice.
