- Frederick E. Bacon, 87, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020. He was born on September 25, 1932 in New Rochelle, NY. He moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1935 and graduated from Bishop Duffy High School and Niagara University with a Bachelor's Degree in History. He attended Harvard Business School. He resided in Jacksonville for the past 46 years.
Fred served with the US Army in Europe from 1955-1957 as a 1st Lieutenant.
Fred started his career in 1957 as a teller at Marine Midland Trust Co. in Lewiston, NY. He held many positions within the bank and was promoted to Vice President of Loans in Niagara Falls, NY. Fred was Chairman of the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce's Legislation Action Committee, Director of the LaSalle Lions Club, past Chairman of the YMCA LaSalle Branch's Board of Managers, past President of Niagara Falls Jaycees and treasurer for Niagara County SPCA and New York State Jaycees. He took a position with American National Bank and moved to Jacksonville, FL. He held the titles of Sr. Vice President of Treasury Management at American National Bank. He was an instructor in accounting and economic courses conducted by the American Institute of Banking.
He was an avid golfer and sponsored Dr. Richard Gunderman's annual golf tournament, United Cerebral Palsy, for children with severe disabilities each year in Tampa, Florida. He left his mark in golf at Deerwood Country Club - A Hole in One!
Fred taught numerous religion classes at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida. He served as a Eucharistic Minister to the elderly in nursing homes for a number of years. He also volunteered for Hospice Northeast. He became a friend to many of the people he visited. He loved to give to charity. He was an avid reader and well-studied. He loved opera, fine wine and good ole' home cooking. He also used to play tennis and loved to take long walks with his dog Lady.
He is survived by his three daughter's Suzanne Moore Bacon, Mary Hunter, Catherine Carrier, his son-in-law David Carrier, and his three grandchildren - Kendall and Alexander Carrier and David Hunter. He is also survived by his three sisters, Mary O'Brien, Ann (Dr. Richard) Gunderman, Patricia (Joseph) Corcoran as well as his nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded by his brother Thomas Bacon, his mother Mary Lavelle Bacon, and his father Frederick Evander Bacon.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, September 30th, at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church located at 6320 Bennett Road, Jacksonville, Florida
