Boonville. Aug. 4.-Ira Briggs, aged
14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin
Briggs of Boonville. was drowned here
shortly before noon to-day. He was
in swimming; in the Black River Canal
in what Is known as the Kent bridge.

boy and several companions were In
swimming about 11:10 o'clock this
morning*. It Is believed young Briggs
was seised with cramps, as he could
swim fairly welt.
The water was about six feet deep
where he was drowned. The other
boys saw him floundering In the water
less than 30 feet from shore and they
pushed a long pole t o htm He appeared
dased and unable to understand
that they were trying to aid him.
The body had not been recovered early
-this afternoon. Coroner Haberer Is in
charge.
Besides his parents the boy Is sur-
vived by several brothers and sisters.
He was born m Boonville and had
lived in this village all his life, the

ville road. H e attended the Boonville
High School and the Methodist Church
a n d S u n d a y School. He was a bright
boy in his studies and popular with
his companions. The sympathy of the
whole village is extended the bereaved
family.
