- Clare “Butch” Ramming passed away March 19, 2024 at Brothers of Mercy Health Care Facility, days after celebrating his 96th birthday. Born March 16, 1928, in Gasport, NY, he was the son of Gordon and Clara (Coulson) Ramming. Butch was a WW II Navy veteran and served on the USS Mansfield. Later in life he served as the Supervisor for the Town of Royalton. He was a co-founder of Tri-Town Ambulance and past fire chief of Gasport Chemical Hose Co. Butch was a member of the Gasport American Legion Post Number 1253 and attended the Zion Lutheran Church.
Butch was an excellent baseball and softball catcher who played competitively while in the Navy and later in WNY. He also coached his sons’ Little League teams. Throughout his life, Butch loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. He relished the opportunity to make others laugh while sharing stories of his many achievements and adventures. Butch enjoyed being of service to others, as demonstrated by his experience in the Navy and contributions to the local community. After retiring, Butch enjoyed many winters with family in Texas.
He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine (McCann) Ramming, and daughter, Linda Ramming.
Butch is survived by his wife Bernice Ramming; sons Thomas (Teresa), Daniel (Vicki), James (Pat), and John (Cole); six grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and caregiver, Morgan Cooper.
Donations in Butch’s name may be made to Gasport Zion Lutheran Church and Tri-Town Ambulance. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on April 13, 2024, noon-3 pm, at Canalside Inn, 4431 Main St, Gasport, NY 14067.
