- Dorothea (nee Coelho) Holdaway, age 90, of Tonawanda, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Schofield Residence after a brief illness. Born November 4, 1927 in Calcutta, India, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maud (nee Wybrow) Coelho. Dorothea had been a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish since 1946 and was a member of the Ladies of Charity; she was a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at both St. Francis and St. Andrew's Parishes. She had been employed as a Ward Clerk at DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda. Along with her late husband, Donald, she enjoyed traveling and they were members of the Holiday Rambler Club.
She was the wife of the late Donald L. Holdaway, who died October 12, 2012; mother of Nora (Richard) McLaughlin of Kenmore, Kathleen Holdaway of Bonita, California, Donald (Nancy) Holdaway of Buckeye, Arizona, Beverly (David) Pizzi of Sutton, Massachusetts, Marilyn (Michael) DeLissio of Cary, North Carolina, Carol (Paul) Bartosz of Grand Island, David (Soni) Holdaway of Durham, North Carolina, Peter (Diane) Holdaway of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Monica (Greg) Topol of Alden, and Jean (G. Joseph) Kamens of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3-7 PM on Thursday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 150 Broad Street, Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Park, Town of Amherst. If desired, memorials to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 73 Adam Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family.
