LEWISTON — Douglas Canfield, age 85, of Ransomville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.
Doug was born May 9, 1928 in the Town of Porter, NY, the son of the late Frank and Jessie (Hamblin) Canfield and was a 1945 graduate of Wilson High School. He established the Douglas Canfield Farm in Ransomville and had operated it continually until his untimely death. Besides being a milk producer, he took his fruits and vegetables to the Buffalo, Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda markets. Doug was a member of the Niagara County Milk Producers Co-Op, a member of the Welch's National Grape Co-Op since 1957, the Niagara County Farm Bureau, the Cornell Cooperative Extension, and served on the Town of Porter Planning Board. He attended the Ransomville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed square dancing and family functions.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Sanger) Canfield, whom he married October 25, 1952; his children, Frank Canfield of Ransomville, Kim (John) Coney of Youngstown, and Kirk (Mary) Canfield of Wilson; his grandchildren, Kyle, Greg, Marc and Caleb Canfield, Colleen (Christopher) Brown, Joshua (Kim) and Aaron (Melissa) Coney, Matthew and Paul Canfield; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Louis, Donald, Carl and James Canfield; and a sister, Dorothy Baker.
