Alvin Bitterman, 14 years old, died
Monday at his home on the Fogelsonger
road, Williamsvllle, from burns
which he suffered Saturday when his
clothing caught fire from a charged
electric wire.
The boy had climbed one of the
high tension towers owned by the
Niagara. Ixickport & Ontario Power
company, near his home. When he
reached the top, he waved his hat to
some playmates beneath. The hat
brushed against one of the high tension
wires and ignited. The flames
spread to his clothing.
The boys father, Anthony Bitterman,
was plowing in a field nearby.
Hearing the screams of the children,
he scaled the tower and beat out the
flames. Then, using some harness as
a sling for the boy's body, he man-
Pired to get him to the ground. The
boy was so-badly burned, efforts to
save his life proved futile.
