Michael Darmstadt, aged 53,
former resident of this city, and a
car man for the New York Central
Railroad, was found dead Friday
morning leaning against a telephone
post on his farm in the
Town of Caton between Caton and
Sagetown on the Caton-Elmira
Road.
Dr. W. S. Cobb, coroner, was
called and pronounced death due
to dilatation of the heart. Mr
Darmstadt, was found by his
brother, Nicholas, who makes his
home with the family.
Mr. Darmstadt had, so far aa
any member of the family knew,
never suffered from heart trouble.
He had been apparently In good
health prior to his death.
Friday morning he left the
house fairly early to put the cows
into another pasture some distance
from the house. His family wondered
why he had not returned
as time went on but did not become
worried about him. When
his brother returned from 'his
milk route about 9 o'clock his attention
was caught by something
which resembled a person leaning
against a telephone post in a field
some distance from the house.
After putting up his truck he decided
in investigate and found
his brother. Death had occurred
a short time prior.
Mr. Darmstadt was born in
Caton February 2, 1880, the son
of Adam and Kathryn Kishmah.
Darmstadt. He was married to
Minerva Bly of Caton In Elmira
October 16, 1915. Mr. and Mrs.
Darmstadt resided for several
years at 12 Winfield street. Corning,
moving to Caton last February,
Since 1917 Mr. Darmstadt
has been Employed as a carman by
the New York Central Railroad.
He is a member of the Brotherhood
of Railway Carmen.
He is survived by his widow;'
three sons, Francis, a freshman at
Northside High School, Doreyn
and Alyn, at home; three sisters,
Mrs. Mary Gorges of Rochester,
Mrs. Rudolf Schuh, of Elmira, and
Mrs. Clarence Cole, of Pine City;
one brother, Nicholas, at home.
The body was removed to the
Phillips Funeral Home from which
place it was removed to the late
home this morning. The funeral
will be held from the late home
Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Burial will be In Millerton, Pa.
