- Mr. Anthony J. Tavano, age 84, of Clarksville, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Memorial service will be at NOON on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue.
Anthony was born on June 30, 1932 to Joseph and Jean (Critelli) Tavano in Niagara Falls, NY. He graduated from St Joseph's School in 1946 and Niagara Falls High in 1949. After graduation he went to work as a delivery driver for Buzelli's Dairy until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. After 16 weeks of basic infantry training at Ft. Jackson, SC he was sent to 16 weeks of advanced leadership training. After graduating from leadership school he was assigned as an instructor at the Infantry School at Ft. Benning, GA. In 1954 he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant from Ft. Benning, GA. In 1955 he went to work for Union Carbide as a cost clerk while attending Niagara University Evening Division. On June 22, 1957 he married Anita Forgione at St Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. He worked for Carbide for 32 years at Niagara Falls and Tonawanda, NY, Cleveland, OH, Fostoria, OH, Clarksburg, WV, Charleston WV, and Clarksville TN. He retired in 1987 as a senior project leader in the Info Systems Division of Union Carbide. After Carbide, Tony worked for 8 years as Chief Info Officer for J.A. Reece Construction Company, and 7 years as Chief Info Officer for Averitt Hardwoods International in Clarksville TN, and afterward for Mitsubishi in Hopkinsville, KY. He spent his spare time fishing on the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Anita; son, Anthony of Clarksville, TN; daughter, MaryAnn of Leominster, MA; brother, Joseph (Joree) Tavano of West Clarksville NY; granddaughters, Samantha Broderick and Kayla Tavano; grandson, Chris Tavano; great-grandson, Kaden Tavano; brother-in-law, Anthony (Lois) Forgione; sister-in-law, Mary Maellaro of Sealbeach, CA; sister-in-law, Carmela Forgione; brother-in-law, Angelo Conde; uncle, Anthony (Nina) DeMunda, Sr.; aunt, Mrs. John (Clara) Tavano; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Sarah Conde.
Tony touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity; he will be dearly missed.
