The Broad Street Baptist Church was the setting Saturday
for the wedding of Miss Bretta Joyce Challgren,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Challgren, Morgan St..
and Herman William Sparks of Maple St. The Rev. Paul
Smithson performed the double ring ceremony before an
altar decorated with baskets of chrysanthemums.
Mrs. Robert Newman sang "O
Promise Me," "The Lord's Pray-
er" and "Because" accompanied
at the organ by Mrs.. LeVerne
Poole who also played traditional
wedding music.
Given in marriage by her fa-
ther, the bride wore a gown of
rosepoint lace and nylon tulle
fashioned over satin. The bodice
featured an open scalloped neck-
line and long sleeves pointing over
the wrists. A lace panel was in-
serted into the front of the bouf-
fant, floor length tulle skirt and
ruffles cascaded from the waist to
the hemline at the back. A lace
cloche trimmed with pearls held
her elbow length veil of illusion.
The bride carried white roses cen-
tered with an orchid and wore a
strand of pearls, a gift from the
bridegroom.
Mrs. Richard Meyers, sister of
the bride, was the matron of honor.
She was attired in a yellow taffeta
strapless gown with matching
bolero. The leaf-effect headdress
and mitts were of matching mater-
ial. She carried a bouquet of deep
yellow roses and chrysanthemums..
Miss Janet Kruse, Miss Ann
Schinaman and Miss Patricia Hills,
bridesmaids wore gowns of deep
blue taffeta with matching head-
pieces and mitts. They carried pale
yellow roses and chrysanthemums.
Pamela Meyers, a niece of the
bride, and Karen Ensminger the
bridegroom's cousin, wore match-
ing dresses of light green taffeta
with Peter Pan collors and full
skirts. They carried flowered hoops
of yellow roses an chrysanthe-
mums.
Richard Meyers was the best
man and the ushers were Arthur
Bronschidle, Leroy Boehnke and
James McDonald. David Meyers,
nephew of the bride, was the ring
bearer.
A reception for 300 was given in
the American Legion Home
where baskets of flowers and a
wedding cake adorned the bride's
table.
Mrs. Challgren received her
guests wearing a turquoise blue
lace gown with blush pink acces-
sories. The bridegroom's mother
wore an aqua taffeta gown with
pink accessories. Both mothers
wore corsages of red roses and
chrysanthemums.
For traveling the bride chose a
navy blue knit suit with red ac-
cesories and an orchid corsage.
After Oct. 30 Mr.. and Mrs.. Sparks
will be at home in Franklin St.
Mrs. Alba Gulich,, Mrs. Robert
Sparks, Mrs. Richard Meyers, Miss
Ann Schinaman, Miss Janet Kruse
and Miss Patricia Hills were host-
esses at prenuptial parties.
