The body of Pvt. Walter C. Bowen,
son of Charles A. Bowen, 40 Chestnut
St., and the late Edith Bowen,
was among the remains of 556
Americana returned to the States
from the Mediterranean area aboard
the U. 8. Army Transport Lawrence
Victory, the Army announced today.
Pvt. Bowen was 21 when killed
In action Aug.
27, 1944 during
the Italian campaign.
He was a
former employe of
the Niagara Hudson
Power Corporation.
Entering service
February, 1943,
Pvt. Bowen trained
at Camp Sibert,
Ala. He went
erseas to June,
1943 and served in North Africa
before going to Italy.
Besides his father, he is survived
by three brothers, Clarence, Robert
and Harold Bowen, all of Lockport,
and three sisters, Mrs. Merrill Collins,
Buffalo, and Mrs. John Moran
and Mrs. Hugh Ryan, both of Lockport.
