Two daughters of Mr. and Mrs.
Tyler E. Bowen, formerly of Randolph,
and now of Washington, were
married on Tuesday evening, August
30. The Washington. Star in its society
column printed this extended no-
tice of the event.
"A double wedding of unusual interest
took place last evemng, at 8 o'
clock at the Seventh-Day Adventist
church,Takoma Park, when the two
daughters of Mr. and Mrs, Tyler E.
Bowen of Sycamore avenue Takoma
Park, were the principals. Miss Mabel
Adallne Bowen^ became the bride
of Mr. C. Arthur 'Carter of Fredericksburg,
Va., and Miss Winifred Gertrude
Bowen was married to Mr.
Thomas C^Cunntngham of Somerville,
Mass.
The ceremonies were performed by
Elder Shaw of the General Conference
of the Seventh Day Adventist church,
assisted by Elder Bryan, pastor of te
Tacoma Park church. The church
was elaborately decorated with palms,,
ferns and late summer flowers, and
over 500 relatives and friends were
present.
"A program of nuptial music was
given before the ceremony by Mrs.
Frances E. Stratton,, who gave a voca
solo; Mr. Robert Edwards, who played
Schubert's "Serenade" on the violin,
and Dr. W. C. John, who presided at
the organ.
Both of the~brides were given In
marriage by their father. Their
gowns,, exactly alike, were of white
crepe de chine garlanded with sprays
of orange blossoms,, and they carried
bouquets of white rosebuds. Mrs.
Cecil Rosos of this city attended Miss
Winifred Gertrude Bowen as matron
of honor, and Miss Julia Cunningham
of Somerville, Mass.,, was bridesmaid.
Prof. J. William Osborn of the Wash-
ington Missionary College attended
Mr.. Cunningham as best man, and the
ushers were Mr. Chase, Mr. Gantt, Mr.
Liffert,, Mr. Ross, Mr. Parrish and Mr.
Miller.
"Miss Mabel Adainen Bowen had as
her maid of honor Miss Jessie Evan,
and Miss Edith Detwiler was brides-
maid. The flower girls were Anna
Lyddane and Virginia Hamilton.
Mr. Severn of the Washington
Missionary College was best man for
Mr. Carter and his ushers were the
same as those who attended Mr. Cun-
ningham. A reception followed the
ceremony."
