BEDFORD - J. Paul Bruton, 80, a missionary to Africa, went home to be with the Lord on Friday.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials: Calvary Temple, 3000 W. Airport Freeway, Irving 75062, to benefit the Arusha Bible School of the Assemblies of God, Northern Tanzania, which he founded.
The Rev. J. Paul Bruton was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Russellville, Ark., and had been a Bedford resident since 1987. He graduated from Southwestern Bible School in 1934 and went to Africa as a missionary, evangelist and educator in 1948, and retired in 1978.
He built Bible schools and evangelized throughout the continent of Africa and spent his life serving others in love as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
Survivors: Wife, Helen Bruton of Bedford; daughter, Sally Vann of Bedford; two sons, the Rev. Paul Bruton Jr. of Burlingame, Calif., and the Rev. Michael Bruton of Clovis, Calif.; brother, E.J. Bruton of Bedford, Ind.; three sisters, Naomi Freeman of Indianapolis, Ind., Rebekah Roepke of Springfield, Mo., and Mary Alice Smith of Monticello, Ind.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
