George E. Wahl, 75, of 2757
LaSalle Ave., a retired printer
for the Niagara Falls Gazette,
died Wednesday (March 29,
1967) in Memorial Hospital after
a brief illness.
A native of Niagara Falls,
Mr. Wahl retired from the Gazette
Jan. 31,1959 after 51 years
of service. He was the oldest
non-executive employe of the
paper in years of service at the
time of his retirement.
Also at the time of his retirement
he held a 40-year membership
in Local 233 International
Typographical Union, one of the
longest memberships in the local.
He began working at the
Gazette as a printer's "devil"
in 1906 and in 1914 was transferred
to the news department
composing room.
He was a member of the
Gazette's 25-Year Club.
Mr. Wahl served with the
Army during World War I and
was a member of John J. Welch
Post 389, American Legion.
He is survived. by his wife,
Ada Erck Wahl; one daughter,
Mrs. Dale (Beverly) Bolam,
Town of Niagara, two grandchildren
and several nieces and
nephews.
Services will be held Saturday
at 2 p.m. at the Redanz Funeral'Home.
Rev. Paul R. Swank,
pastor of Zion Lutheran Church,
will officiate. Burial will .be in
Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 5
and 7 to 9 p.m.
The American Legion Post
389 will conduct a memorial
service Friday at 7:30 p.m.
