LOCKPORT, May 7-Stricken ill
with a cerebral hemorrhage on
December 7,1941, Peart Harbor day,
William L, Buchanan, 73, of 94
Irving street, retired FBI agent
and former immigration officer in
. charge of the Port of Buffalo, died
on V-E Day in Lockport City hospital.
Born in Lockport, January 16,
1872, a son of the late Police Officer
Robert B. Buchanan and
. Margaret S. Silk Buchanan, he was
graduated from Lockport high
school. He served as alderman of
the old fifth ward, which then included
the present fifth and seventh
wards.
Entering the V. S. Immigration
service at St, John's N. B., Mr.
Buchanan later was in charge of
the Port of Buffalo for several years.
Retiring from the government service,
he was recalled during the
. first World War by President Wilson
and served as a special agent
of the Federal Bureau of Investigation
under J. Edgar Hoover until
his retirement eight years ago.
He was a member of Red Jacket
Lodge, No. 646, F. and A. M.. Ames
Chapter, No. 88, R. A. M., Genesee
Commandery, No. 10. K. T., all of
this city, and Ismallla Shrine, of
Buffalo.
Surviving are three brothers,
James A., Roy H. and Rose O.
Buchanan, and a sister, Mrs. Joseph
G. Garuder, all of this city
The funeral will be held Wednesday
at 3:30 p. m. at the Pruds
den funeral home, 343 Genesee
street. Interment will be in Cold
Springs cemetery.
