John J. Schell, 66, of 232 Ideal
St., locomotive engineer for the
Delaware, Lackawanna & Western
Railroad since 1912, died yesterday
at Mercy Hospital after three
months illness. Connected with the
railroad since 1905, Mr. Schell
started as a fireman and, following
his promotion to engineer, alternated
on fast freight and passenger
runs.
Born at Ft. Winiski, la., he lived
in Buffalo since the year he joined
the railroad. Mr. Schell was a
member of F. B. Griffith Division
of the Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers.
Surviving are his wife, Ida Buckman
Schell; two sons, Gordon and
Anthony; three daughters, Mildred
and Elinor Schell and Mrs. Laura
Loichinger; a brother, Joseph;
three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at
St Agnes Church Monday a 9
a.m. following prayers at the
home. Burial will be in St. John's
Cemetery, West Alden.
