A wartime romance which began
in Ireland four years ago was
climaxed Saturday with the marriage
of Miss Nora Blake, daughter
of Mr. William Oliver Blake. Tiihcoutby.
Clackmannonshlre, Scotland,
and Mr. Howard William Mess. Ontario
avenue, son of the late Mr
and Mrs. William C. Mess. The Rev.
Dr. Arthur H. Schmoyer officiated
during the ceremony in Zlon Evangelical
Lutheran church
Tall cathedral candles, palms and
ferns together with tall baskets of
white gladioli and blue delphinium
decorated the chancel of the church
Mr. Henry' V. Mess sang -Because."
° Where'er You Walk." an aria from
Sernele." by Handel, and the prayer.
"O Perfect Love "
The bride, given In marriage by
Mr. Henrv V. Laur. who served as
proxy for her father, wore a gown of
imported French marquisette, fash-
ioned with a round neckline, fitted
bodice and long sleeves, tapered at
the wrists. Her full skirt formed a
long train. She wore a fintertip veil
of illusion which fell from a Juliette
cap and carried a cascade bouquet
of white gladioli and blue delphin-
ium.
Mrs. D. Nell Rodger, sister of the
bridegroom, was the bride's only
attendant. She was attired in a pale
turquoise gown of imported Swiss
embroidery Her cascade bouquet
was of American Beauty roses and
white larkspur.
Mr. Robert H. Mess, brother of the
bridegroom, was best man. The ush-
ers were Mr C. William Mess. Mr.
Edward Chateauneuf. Mr. Martin
Welch, Jr. and Mr Henry' Kennedy.
Following the ceremony, the reception
was held at the Niagara
Palls Country club, after which the
wedding supper was served. The
bride's table was covered with an
embroidered heirloom cloth centered
with a table bouquet of red roses
and white larkspur.
The couple first met in Belfast.
Ireland, when Miss Blake was serv-
inf with the WAAF and Mr. Mess
with the U. S. Army. After the re-
ception they left for Brittania on
the Lake of Bays. For traveling the
bride wore a tailored suit of dusty
white gabardine and a small corsage
of heather.
On returning, the couple will re-
side temporarily at 1807 Ontario
avenue.
