Bride of Three Months Complains of Husband's Treatment
"He has $2.000 of his own; I have not a penny. We have been married only three months and I can no longer live with him because of his cruel treatment of me. God knows I would prefer ten years in prison to being compelled to live with him. And his mother warned me, too."The plaint was from Mrs. Anna Schurr,Main street woman who charged her husband. Frank Schurr, employed in a silver-plating works, with assault. Schurr, who has but one leg, was once before complained of by his wife who later secured his release because, she told the court, she had pity on him.The court said the woman was not compelled to live with her husband, and If she preferred to go to work she was at liberty to follow her own Inclination. "I do not blame you for wanting to leave him if what you say about him Is true, " said the court. The woman told of her being orphaned when nine years old. Her brother lives in Pennsylvania, but he Is about to go to the old country and his absence will deprive her of any relative in the country to whom she can look for aid. Schurr said his wife drank beer from a pail, with another man who was helping to move a stove. She also, Schurr said, kept company with a girl who is objectionable to defendant. Mrs. Schurr said the woman mentioned works at the same factory as her husband. Judge Piper adjourned further hearing until Saturday morning, recommending defendant to make some provision to give his wife a start If she decides on leaving him,
