- Elizabeth M. (Certo) Pfleger, 102, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on January 23, 2022 at her residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Antonucci) Certo.
Lizzie was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She was employed in her family’s business, Certo Brothers Distributing Company, for over 50 years as Secretary & Treasurer. During World War II, Lizzie was instrumental in running the day-to-day operations of the company while her brothers were serving in the military. On August 31, 1968, she married Robert J. Pfleger in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Pfleger predeceased her on September 24, 2013. Lizzie was a renowned ballroom dancer, and won many competitions with her husband. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed traveling and visiting many casinos. She was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Mary of the Cataract Church. Her work ethic and commitment to her family made her the ideal role model for her female nieces.
Elizabeth is survived by her step children, Suzanne Pfleger and Jeffery A. Pfleger, and her step-granddaughter, Emily Pfleger; her sister, Mary Certo Morinello Rolle, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret (late Frank) (late Palmer) Serianni, Ken (late Katie) Certo, Albert (late Josephine) Certo, Henry (Natalie) Certo, and Hon. Anthony (late Rita) Certo.
We express a thank you to all our aunt’s caretakers for their dedication to her and a special thank you to Christine Weber for her love of our aunt and for her giving her 5 years of exciting life.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27 from 4 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304. Elizabeth’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 237 4th Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303. Everyone please assemble at church.
