Raymond J. Byron
Raymond J. Byron, 82, of Rensselaer, died at his home at 8:27 p.m. on May 4, 1994.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1912, in Ivesdale, Ill,. to Patrick and Martha (McCoppin) Byron. He attended Gilboa School and graduated in the class of 1931.
He was a self-employed farmer.
Mr. Byron was married in Remington on Dec. 27, 1939, to Julia A. Mathew, who survives.
He was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer, a former Rensselaer City Council member; a member of the Holy Name Society; member of the Iroquois Valley Archery Range; member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Dwenger Council 1881 and the Marion Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife Julia; a daughter, Mrs. Connie (Melvin) Elliott of West Point, Ind.; a son, James R. (Pamela) Byron of Elkhart; one grandson; five granddaughters; a brother, Vincent (Clarissca) Byron of Remington; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Byron of Remington.
Friends may call on Friday, May 6, from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer. Rosary services will be held at 8:15 p.m.
The funeral will b on Saturday, May 7, at 10 a.m. in the St. Augustine Church with Rev. Fr. Leonard Kostka officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Remington.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jasper County Hospice, the St. Augustine School Trust Fund or to the Gibault School for Boys by procuring the proper envelope at the Jackson Funeral Chapel.
