- Hi Char,
I am not connected to this family myself - they were neighbors and friends of my mother and grandmother in the Bronx. I also have photographs of them - if you are related to this family or want to put me in touch with the person who asked you to look them up I would be happy to forward the photos. I saw some of your information online but there was not anything on Frank and Katherine Steinbrenner past the fact that they were married. I will tell you what I know - not many "facts" you cant find on ancestry but some background on them as to where they lived etc. I don't mind if you put it online.
I assume you have access to census records online. Here is the basics that I could find myself.
It appears from census records that Frank Steinbrenner emigrated to the US in 1883. The only one I could find who fits his description etc. is as follows. It appears he was not traveling with any other family members. - occupation listed as Laborer.
Name: Franz Steinbrenner Arrival Date: 27 Aug 1883 Estimated Birth Year: 1866 Age: 17 Gender: Male Port of Departure: Antwerp, Belgium Destination: United States of America Place of Origin: Germany Ship Name: S Daniel Stenmann Port of Arrival: New York Line: 13 Microfilm Roll: 469 List Number: 1092
1900 Census, New York, Bronx

I find a Frank Steinbrenner living in the Bronx with a wife Mary - it appears it might be the same person. I know nothing about a wife named Mary - it says they had one child born, one child living at the time but no children are listed on the census.
For some reason I cannot find Frank Steinbrenner on the 1910 Census.
1920 Census, New York, Bronx
Name: Frank Steinbrenner Age: 53 years Estimated birth year: 1866 Birthplace: Germany Race: White Home in 1920: Bronx, Bronx, New York Home owned: Roll: T625_1140 Page: 1B ED: 383 Image: 0710
At that time he was married to Katherine and it listed their two children, Eleanor and Francis. My parents were great friends with both children - in each others weddings etc.
It appears from the 1920 census that Katherines sister lived in the same house/building with Katherine and family. Her sister was Mary "Mamie" and was married to Alfred Holer - they had two children at the time - Pearl and Doris. They also visited Edgewater Park and joined in all the parties there.
Frank Steinbrenner must have died between 1920 and 1930 but I dont know exactly when - Katherine is listed as a widow in 1930.
1930 Census
Name: Katherine Steinbrenner Age: 38 Estimated birth year: abt 1892 Birthplace: Massachusetts Relation to head-of-house: Head Race: White Home in 1930: Bronx, Bronx, New York
1930; Census Place: Bronx, Bronx, New York; Roll: 1477; Page: ; Enumeration District: 422; Image: 622.0.
As you will see on the census pages, Frank and Katherine had two children - Eleanor and Francis.
Some time after 1930 the family moved to a place called Edgewater Park in Bronx, New York and lived next door to my grandmother. Katherine, who we knew as Kitty, was a bubbly wonderful woman. She remarried to a man named "Fritz" Mey and they had one son, Robert, who was born early 1930s. Mr. Mey was a window washer on the skyscrapers in NYC and he died when the scaffolding broke and he fell to his death.
I spent a great deal of time with my grandparents in the summers when I was growing up. Their house and Kittys was located directly on the waterfront near the Throggs Neck Bridge in the Bronx. Kitty was our driver to Mass every Sunday. Do you know anything about the Bronx? Where do you live? I could go into a little more detail on Edgewater Park but you may not be interested in all that so let me know.
As to Frank and Katherines son Francis "Frank" Steinbrenner, he married a woman named Marion. They did not have any children.
Name: Frank X. Steinbrenner SSN: 057-09-0090 Last Residence: 10461 Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States of America Born: 31 Jul 1918 Died: 9 Apr 1990 State (Year) SSN issued: New York (Before 1951 )
You have him listed on your online information but without parents. This will connect that information with Frank and Katherine.
As to Frank and Kataherines daughter Eleanor Steinbrenner - she married Frank Lang and they had one son Jeffrey. My sister may remember more about them. I dont know exactly where they ended up but I have pictures of them.
If you would like to write back, please feel free or put me in contact with anyone interested in the family and their way of life/photographs.
