GRAND ISLAND, Oct. 20.-
John H. Staley, 46 Greenway Rd.,
chief engineer of the Sylvania Co..
died today. Mr. Staley, who had
been ill for a week, was taken to
Deaconess Hospital, Buffalo, this
morning where he was pronounced
dead on arrival.
Mr. Staley was born in Buffalo
Oct. 26, 1887. He was the son of
Jefferson and Mary Staley, a
pioneer Grand Island family.
He and his wife, the former
Martha Gagemske, whom he married
in 1908, moved to Grand Island
in 1937. .
Besides his wife he is survived by
seven daughters and two tons. His
daughters are Mrs. Marion Rarich,
Cheektowaga; Mrs. Mildred Ehrhardt,
East Aurora; Mrs. Leona
Brackett, Houston, Tex.; Mrs.
Eileen Schapel, Niagara Falls; Mrs.
Virginia Hall, Buffalo; Mrs. Helen
Yensan, Kenmore, and Mrs. Sally
Anne Dworak, Grand Island.
The sons are John, Staley,
Guelph, Ont., and Robert W.
Staley, serving with the U. S.
Navy aboard the aircraft carrier
Philippine Sea.
Mr. Staley also is survived by
three brothers, Ray and Frank
Staley of Grand Island and Rhodell
Staley, Buffalo, and 17 grandchildren.
Mr. Staley was employed by the
Sylvania Co. for 20 years. For
the last 10 years he had.been chief
engineer.
