Bertha Brauer of Altamont dies at 101
ALTAMONT - Bertha Marie Rosine Haseley Brauer , 101, of Altamont entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2007). Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Mitchel Schuessler officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials: Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Care Center or donorâs choice. Mrs. Bauer was born March 28, 1906, in Altamont, the daughter of John and Albertine Krueger Haseley. She was baptized by Pastor C. Luecker on April 4, 1906, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Altamont, and was confirmed in faith by Pastor F.W. Brockmann. Mrs. Brauer was known for her enduring hospitality to everyone she encountered, whether friend, family or stranger. She would never let anyone go home without having a sample of her pies, cookies or cakes. Her generous spirit of Christian love and concern continued during her last years at the Lutheran Care Center, where she would bring joy and hope to her many fellow residents. Mrs. Brauer was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid organization and has served on many committees and in numerous offices during her long years of service. She married Henry A. Brauer on Sept. 28, 1930. He preceded her in death March 19, 1981. Surviving are her daughter, Helen of Altamont; son, Elden (Sue Conlin) Brauer of Wheaton; grandchildren, Douglas (Barbara) of South Aurora; Julia (Joseph) Heinz of East Dundee; Jennifer of Oak Park; Daniel of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Katie Brauer of South Aurora; Tom, Maggie and Will Heinz, all of East Dundee; Brody MacDonald of Oak Park. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Martin; and sisters, Pauline Bernahl and Anna (in infancy).
