WHEATFIELD - Harold E. Pankow, a longtime member of St. Johnsburg Fire Company, died Saturday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a brief illness. He died a day before his 83rd birthday.
Mr. Pankow was born in North Tonawanda and was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Church. He attended parochial school.
He worked at National Grinding Wheel, Walck's Dairy and the state Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Pankow had been a fire company member for 50 years. He enjoyed doing crafts and spending his winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Jennis A. Walck; a daughter, Betty Cash-Willis of Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Robin of Rome; two sisters, Lorena Heuer of Port Orange, Fla., and Jane Heuer of Wheatfield; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 A.M. today in St. John Evangelical Church, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ward Road. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery
