Donald Victor Schneck
Wappingers Falls - Donald Victor Schneck, 78, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at home in the loving care of his wife, family, friends, aides, and Hospice of Dutchess County. With courage and bravery, he fought a long battle with cancer. Don was born in Buffalo, New York on October 11, 1932 to Victor and Esther Schroer Schneck. He attended public schools in Buffalo and graduated from Erie County Technical Institute. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Tokyo General Hospital in Japan. His main employment was IBM at various locations in the country, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed singing, playing the organ, piano and trumpet, gardening, photography, family gatherings and vacations on the coast of Maine. Don served in a number of churches in various positions including Luther League President, Sunday School teacher, and student and then teacher of the Bethel Bible Series. He has been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie since 1965, where he also held a number of positions including President of the Church Council. With his wife, Esther, they hosted an in home Prayer, Praise and Bible Study Group for fifteen years under the name of "For Such a Time As This." He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, the former Esther Kroening, whom he married August 18, 1956 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Walmore, New York. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Daniel Schneck, and fiancée, Milagros Valdez; son, David Schneck, and wife, Rosemarie; daughter, Karen Hutchings, and boyfriend, Mike Voulgaris; nine grandchildren, Jessica Smith, and husband, Jason, Jason Hutchings, and wife, Kasey, Jacob Schneck, and wife, Amanda, and Tiffany, Nathan, Stephanie, Bethany, Christina, and Christopher Schneck; and three great grandchildren, Jeremiah Schneck, and Dakota and Noah Hutchings. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Schneck, and wife, Jean, and Harold Schneck, and wife, Wendy; step-mother, Doris Schneck Neumann, and husband, Robert; half-sisters, Linda Rowell, and husband, Dennis, and Marilyn Schneck; half-brother, Nelson Schneck, and wife, Gail; brother-in-law, Herman Kroening; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Richard C. Hutchings; sister, Norma Kroening; brother-in-law, Rudolph Kroening; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Kroening. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 pm, Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
