Ray E. DeVantier, who retired from National Grinding Wheel in North Tonawanda in 1988, died Friday (Jan. 9, 2004) in Elderwood Health Care Center at CrestWood following a brief illness. He was 80. DeVantier was born in Wheatfield and attended local schools. He worked as a shipping clerk at National Grinding Wheel. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and gardening. DeVantier was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bergholz. He was also a member of the Retired Servicemen's Chorus, Bergholz Fire Company and the Wheatfield Historical Society, Senior Citizens and Republican Club. His wife, the former Elinor Burow, died in 2002. Survivors include a son, Daniel R. of Los Angeles; two daughters, Donna M. of Wheatfield and Deborah D. Bourne of Orchard Park; a sister, Mildred of Bergholz; a brother, Allen of Bergholz; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 11 A.M. Monday in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Bergholz.
