A memorial service for Bessie Ferchen, 101, will be held at 4 P.M. Oct. 20 in Sanborn United Methodist Church, 5816 Buffalo St., Sanborn.
Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Pekin.
Mrs. Ferchen died Sept. 23, 1990, in the Beechwood Nursing Home, Amherst, where she had lived for the past three years. Before that, she had lived in the Blocher Home in Williamsville.
The former Bessie Treichler graduated from the Teachers Normal School in Middleport and taught in the Cambria School District and the Tuscarora Indian Reservation School.
She and her late husband, Hugo Ferchen, taught music to their five children and formed a family orchestra. They also performed together in church choirs, in community marching bands and in choral societies.
She became a Gold Star mother when two of their sons, Walter and Richard, were killed in 1943 while serving in World War II.
Mrs. Ferchen was a member of Flagler Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; the Auxiliary of American Legion Post 969; the Retired Teachers Association, and Williamsville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, James of Florida; two daughters, Christine Stumpf of California and Laura Martin; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren
