Glenwood W. Zastrow, 72, of Williams Street, a past commander of Lake Ontario Post 313, Veterans of Foreign Wars, died Sunday (June 7, 1998) in St. Mary's Manor Nursing Home, Niagara Falls, after a brief illness. A native of Niagara Falls, Zastrow was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School. He moved to Youngstown in 1953. He served in Europe with the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1949. Zastrow was a graphite machinist for Carbon Graphite Group for 43 years until he retired in 1995. He was a member and elder of St. John Lutheran Church; a life member and past commander of the VFW Post, which he also served as chaplain for 20 years; president of Branch 471, Aid Association for Lutherans , for 12 years; past president of St. John Singles and Doubles Club; and a member of the Youngstown Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Shirley I. Amsdill; three sons, William F. of Lakewood, Colo., Stephen R. of Corpus Christi, TX, and John C.; and a brother, Elton of Niagara Falls. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
