Jack E. Murray

CHICO, CA — Jack E. Murray, 88, a Niagara Falls native, passed away on March 14, 2011 near Chico, California. Jack was born and raised on 5th Street in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Harry and Gertrude (Florer) Murray.
Jack attended local Niagara Falls schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. It was at Niagara Falls High School where he met Margaret Blackwell. They were married shortly after graduating high school. They would have five children together.
During World War II, Jack served in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment from 1942-1945. He proudly served in Europe and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. Jack was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart.
Jack would later relocate to San Jose, California. There, in 1965 he was married to his second wife Jean Pendergast. Jack was a painting contractor for many years and later worked for San Jose State University. He was also a member of the Peninsula Banjo Band. Jack and his wife joined other band members in retirement at Magalia, CA. He could regularly be found walking his dogs in the mornings and having coffee with his buddies, many also proud WWII veterans.
Jack was always quick with a kind word, funny joke and a "God Bless." He will be missed dearly by all that knew him and loved him.
Mr. Murray is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Jaquelyn (Edward), Jeanne (Brian); sons, William (Judy), James (Linda); and many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Kathleen; first wife, Margaret; sisters, Helen and Vivian; and brother, Harry.
Mr. Murray was laid to rest Monday, March 21, 2011. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Fund in care of the funeral home.
