- Raymond ‘Ray’ L. Gruarin, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Louis and Pauline (Falsetti) Gruarin.
Ray attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School. On April 24, 1954, he married Joann C. (Pendergast) Gruarin at Sacred Heart Church. Joann predeceased him on February 19, 2018. Ray was employed for 46 years, at Conrail Railroad in Niagara Falls and Buffalo as a Locomotive Engineer retiring in 1994. He also worked at Amtrak while at Conrail. Raymond was a member of Brotherhood Engineers Local 421, Niagara Police Athletic League, HANCI, VFW Post 917 and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He also volunteered at the NF Police Athletic League and Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital for over 25 years. He loved to watch hockey especially the Boston Bruins and was an avid walker around the falls. Ray was always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends in their time of need.
Raymond is survived by his children, Raymond L. (Sabrina) Gruarin II, Dennis (Cari Shaffer) Gruarin and Robert (Mary Kay) Gruarin; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Haas, Dr. Scott and Jeff (Krista) Gruarin, Grethe (Matt) Mackiewicz, Greigh (Alicia), Raymond Tyler (Maggy), Grace (Cristian) deRosa, Kevin (April), Carly (Chris) Cappuccilli, Christopher (Amie), Katie (Ron) Bernick, Casey and Cam Gruarin, seventeen great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Leyla Gruarin as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Gloria Sumner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304. Raymond’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Parish at Mt. Carmel Church, 27th and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301. Everyone please assemble at church. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to NFPAL, Niagara Hospice, Mt.
