Funeral Services for John L. Wendt Tuesday Afternoon.
PEKIN, Sept. 14.-John L. Wendt, 77, prominent Pekin fruit farmer, died yesterday in a Buffalo hospital of pneumonia which developed after an accident at his home. Three weeks ago he fell down a short flight of stairs and fractured his right arm. Mr. Wendt was born December 18, 1853, the son of William and Elizabeth Walck Wendt, in the town of Wheatfield on the farm now occupied by the Niagara Falls airport. As a young man he came to Lockport where he was engaged in the grocery business in Main street for a number of years. Thirty-six years ago Mr. Wendt bought a farm on the Upper Mountain road, near Pekin, where he specialized in fruit growing. He had many customers from Niagara and Erie Counties and was well known. Surviving are one son, Walter J. Wendt of Pekin, and one brother, Albert F. Wendt of Lockport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cold Springs cemetery, Lockport.
