- Donald Wurl of North Tonawanda passed away on June 7, 2017 at the age of 78. Don graduated from North Tonawanda Senior High School where he excelled in sports, winning the Niagara Frontier League points title as a HB for the football team. He was also an avid bowler and had many 700 game series and one perfect 300 game. He loved the game of golf too and could always be found during the summer months playing a round at Deerwood.
Don worked at the N. Tonawanda Public works as a Foreman for 35 years. His employment with the city was put on hold for two years as he served in the Army.
He was a volunteer fireman at Rescue Fire Hall, and lifelong member there for 58 years. Don also was a member of the American Legion. Additionally, after his first battle with throat cancer he became a volunteer driver for Roswell Park shuttling patients to and from their appointments.
Donald is survived by his 4 children Andrew (Tracie) Wurl, Alan (Kathy) Wurl, Nicholas Wurl, Charles Wurl; His sister Dolores (Wurl) Ackerman, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and was proceeded by his wife Carole (Waliszewski) Wurl and brother Douglas Wurl.
There will be a Memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd, N. Tonawanda at 3:00 PM Friday June 16. Immediately following there will be a reception at Sweeney Hose Fire Station, 499 Zimmerman St, N. Tonawanda.
If desired, contributions can be made to either St. Paul Lutheran church or Roswell Park.
