- George L. Weidert, 79, of Ransomville, NY, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2007 at his home, with his loving children and family, while under care of Niagara Hospice, after a short illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY on August 15, 1928, the son of George and Frances (Theis) Weidert, where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Trott High School. George was employed as a steel fabricator for Industrial Welding Corporation for over 25 years. He later had worked on the construction of the Somerset Power Plant and then was employed by the Smith Bros. Construction Company for several years, prior to his retirement. George was always helping others, repairing everything imaginable. As a volunteer for Opportunities Unlimited, he built bowling ramps for the handicapped bowlers. He enjoyed hunting, camping and playing cards, especially with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Pekin, Niagara County, NY and an Exempt Member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Company. George was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, the former Jane E. Smith on May 27, 2006 and a son, John D. Weidert on November 30, 1993. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jane (Robert) Smith of Ransomville, Susan A. (Dennis) Mielke of Sanborn; a son, George R. (Bonnie) Weidert of Ransomville; grandchildren, Kerri, Jason, R.J., Tracy, Derek, Karen, Sarah and Nicholas; brother, William Weidert of Niagara Falls; sister, Eleanor Murphy of Michigan; also survived by two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will be present on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Sanborn, 5893 Hoover Road, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM, followed by services at Hope United Methodist Church, Sanborn, NY at 11 AM, with Rev. Janet Hubbard officiating. The Sanborn Volunteer Fire Company will hold a memorial service Tuesday at 8:00 PM. Interment in Mount View Cemetery, Town of Cambria, NY.
