City Worker Dies Of Heart Attack
A certificate of death duo to natural causes was issued today by Coroner James W. Heary after an investigation in the case of Albert Metcher, 65, of 613 Twenty-third street, who died in an ambulance yesterday afternoon en route to Memorial hospital. Mr. Metcher, a truck driver for the city, was stricken Wednesday afternoon while driving a city garbage truck in Fifteenth street and was found slumped over the wheel of the truck. He was revived by a Fire department inhalator crew and taken home. At the time it was believed he might have been overcome by carbon monoxide fumes from the truck engine. Stricken again at his home yesterday, Mr. Metcher was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Coroner Heary said that his investigation indicated that Mr. Metcher was a victim of a heart attack. A native of this city, Mr. Metcher was a city employee for the last 49 years. He was a member of Local 138, State and County Municipal Employees association. Surviving are a sister. Mrs. Josephine Roll, this city, and two brothers, William Metcher. this city, and Frank Metcher. Sherrill. The Rev. O. Charles Rowe will conduct funeral services at the Bell Funeral chapel on Monday at 3:30 pm. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
