William C. Pickard, 83, who operated
a construction company
many years ago in Western New
York, died unexpectedly yesterday
at his home, 188 Young St.,
Tonawanda.
He was born in Hartland Corners,
N.Y., and had resided in Tonawanda
for the past 49 years.
Broadway Street in Buffalo was
paved by Mr. Pickard's company
in 1925. The outfit also built many
roads, bridges and homes throughout
Western New, York.
Mr. Pickard was a member of
the Housing Corporation of the
Tonawandas between World Wars
I and II and worked as a guard
at Remington - Rand's Main Street
plant in Tonawanda during World
War II. He also was formerly employed
as a carpenter and contractor
at the Bennett Lumber Co.
in North Tonawanda.
Mr, Pickard: retired about five
years ago. He was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, H. Kenneth
Pickard, and a daughter,
Mrs. Lelan Clement, both of Tonawanda;
a granddaughter, Mrs.
Theodore Miller, and three greatgrandsons,
all of Minneapolis,
Minn.
