- Gwendolyn P. Molnar, "Gwen", (nee Poole), of North Tonawanda, passed away December 2, 2009, at Crestwood Healthcare, in Wheatfield. Born August 2, 1915 in Newfoundland, daughter of the late Jesse and Mildred Poole.Mrs. Molnar graduated nursing school as a registered nurse in 1939 in St. John's Newfoundland. In 1945 she began working at DeGraff Memorial. In 1947 she married Paul Molnar who owned Molnar's Restaurant on River Road. From that time until their retirement in 1969, Mrs. Molnar co-managed the restaurant with her husband.For over seventy years, Gwen Poole Molnar had entertained friends and family with special occasion missives and poems. Weddings, birthdays, retirements, births, deaths and anniversaries, including the 1981 fiftieth anniversary of her graduating class at Grace Hospital, have been enhanced and memorialized by her poetry, and at the age of 93, she signed the book contract that will enhance the history of her beloved Pilley's Island. For over 60 years Mrs. Molnar lived in North Tonawanda, where in the 1980's she wrote a column called "Seniors on the Move" for the Tonawanda News.Mrs. Molnar was a member of the Church at Shawnee Landing and a regular at the DeGraff Nurses Retirees Dinners. She also was an avid reader and a top notch Scrabble player.Mrs. Molnar was predeceased by her husband, Paul, who passed away in 1990. She is survived by her children, Gail P. (Gary) Andrees of Akron and Paul (Mary) Molnar of Midland, TX; grandmother of Christy Dunn; great-grandmother of Carlton Carter III and Rileigh Gwendolyn Dunn; sister of Madge Steeves; also survived by cousins, including Joyce Danhof; and nieces and nephews.Friends may call FRIDAY 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held SATURDAY at 1:00 PM.
