John Remele Lyman, Jr.

LEWISTON — John R. Lyman, Jr., of Wilson, NY, passed away peacefully Monday, April 15, 2013, at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born January 1, 1931 in Rochester, NY, to the late John Remele Lyman, Sr. and Laura Woodard Lyman.
John attended Jamestown High School and Worcester Academy. He then went on to Babson University. In 1955 he was drafted into the Army, serving two years in Korea. On June 27, 1959, he married Laura Lee Bobzien.
John was employed in the family business of Culligan Water Conditioning, eventually becoming the owner. In 1972 John opened The Craft Center, and was there until his retirement in 1990. During his retirement, he worked part-time at Northwest Fabrics as a picture framer. John then opened his own picture frame shop in Youngstown, NY, moving the store to Wilson a few years later.
Community service was important to John. He served as Master of the Masonic Lodge and Patron of Eastern Star twice. John and his wife, Laura, served first as a sharing couple for Marriage Encounter, and then administration couple. John was an active member of Lewiston Assembly of God, serving on the board for several years. Above all, John enjoyed reading, playing computer solitaire, spending time with his family, and spending summers in Dwight, Ont. at the family cottages.
In addition to his wife, Laura, John is survived by his four children, John (Janet) Lyman of N. St. Paul, MN; James (Sherri) Lyman of Elkton, VA; Stephen (Tanya) Lyman and Mary E. Bethke Lyman, both of Wilson, NY; four grandchildren, Stephen Lyman, Jr., Benjamin Lyman, Rachael Bethke and Aron Bethke.
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at Lewiston Assembly of God, 4754 Creek Road, Lewiston, NY 14092. Donations may be made to Lewiston Assembly of God or the American Diabetes Association.
