FT. NIAGARA, June 2—The
assignment of Lt. Col. Joseph F.
Butler, Niagara Falls, as executive
officer of the 2nd AAA group with
headquarters here was announced
today. He replaces Maj. Thomas
A. Worrell, who Has departed for
an overseas assignment.
Col. Butler is a veteran of over
18 years active service. He enlisted
as a private in 1935 and was commissioned
a second lieutenant in
the coast artillery at Ft. Monroe,
Va., in 1941. He graduated from
Trott Vocational High School, Niagara,
and is a graduate of the advanced'anti-
aircraft artillery course
in 1944.
The new executive officer came
to the 2nd group here with an outstanding
war record. During World
War II he participated in four major
campaigns, served in Hawaii and
Okinawa and was awarded the
Bronze Star medal. In addition to
his extensive experience as an antiaircraft
artillery officer.Jie is considered
a specialist in the field of
military administration.
Col. Butler served as acting
chief of staff at GI headquarters of
the 9th Infantry Division. Previous
to his present assignment he was
with GI of the 34th AAA brigade
with the U. S. Army in Europe.
Col. Butler and his wife Betty,
reside with his family at 432 Cedar
Ave., Niagara Falls. Col. Butlers
mother is Mrs. Ravmond H. Esslie.
Col. and Mrs. Butler have three
children, Joseph, 5, Bonnie, 3 and
Edward, 2.
