- Dorothy "Polly" Hartman, of Niagara Falls passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 27th at Elderwood Nursing Home in Wheatfield. She was born and raised in LaSalle and graduated from LaSalle Sr. High School.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She always saw the best in people. She lived most of her life on Cayuga Island and loved living on the water.
In the 1970's and into the 1980's she ran an international company which was incredible, as women typically did not hold that position during that time.
She received the Good Neighbor award. She was a wonderful piano player and enjoyed tennis, swimming, skating, boating, snowmobiling and motorcycling with her husband, Jack.
She belonged to the Water Wheel Square Dance Club where they performed at many nursing homes and community events. For years she knitted caps for newborn babies in the hospital. She never missed any of her grandchildren's recitals, sporting events and graduations. Her face would light up when she had all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her.
She had a strong personality but it gave her so much passion and love for everyone and all she did. She always loved angels and butterflies. She always wore an angel on her shoulder and a butterfly for good luck on her necklace. She belonged to Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sue (Dave) Ciesielski and Nancy Rosie; grandchildren, Kerri (Mick) Askew, David (Kristin) Ciesielski, Kristin (Mike) Wade, Justin (Matthew) Rosie; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Kailey Ciesielski, Christian and Alessandra. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack W. Hartman; parents, Francis and Julia Meraw; brother, Joseph (Don) Meraw.
