NORTH TONAWANDA - Arnold E. Martin, 48, of 7010 Ward Road, Town of Wheatfield, died today (Sept. 7, 1965) in Veterans Hospital, Buffalo, after a long illness. Mr. Martin was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Johnsburg. He was confirmed with the class of 1932 in St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gratwick. He was a member of the St. Johnsburg Fire Company for 25 years and he was a former member of the St. Johnsburg Drum Corps for 30 years. Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II, having served from 1942 to 1945. He served in Africa, Italy arid Austria with the 85th Division. He was a member of the American Legion, Wheatfield Post No. 1451, for 10 years. He was also a member of the Polar Bear Association of the 339th Regimental Combat Team of World War II and the Unknown Club of the Tonawandas. Mr. Martin was president of the Gratwick Saturday Night Mixed Couples bowling league. Mr. Martin was a carpenter. He served as building inspector for nine years in the Town of Wheatfield. He is survived by his wife Isabelle Krull Martin; two daughters, Gay Gayle and Pamela Ann, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Martin, Town of Wheatfield; and a brother, Robert Martin, also of the Town of Wheatfield. Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, where services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. C. W. Rabe officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran cemetery.
