LEWISTON — Leona (nee Brown) Nixon, 91, of Niagara Falls, NY, died, suddenly, on Sunday, May 15, 2011, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born on March 11, 1920 in Troupe, PA, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Margaret Ann (Lewis) Brown.
Mrs. Nixon came to Niagara Falls, NY as a child and attended local schools. During World War II, Leona worked as a production worker at Kimberly Clark. She later was employed as a housekeeper for the Quality Inn in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Nixon was a member of Forestview Church of God. Leona enjoyed the outdoors, walking, crafts and playing bingo at Our Lady of Peace. She will be sadly missed.
Mrs. Nixon is survived by one daughter, Beverly (David) Mietlicki of Whitesville, NY; one son, Michael (Deborah) Nixon of Niagara Falls, NY; one grandson, David Mietlicki of Niagara Falls, NY; two granddaughters, Tina Mietlicki and Marcie Copeland (Eric) Hapeman, both of Niagara Falls, NY; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Mietlicki, Courtney Hapeman, Emily Gnirk, Jaylin Mietlicki and Eric Hapeman, all of Niagara Falls, NY, and one expected great-grandson. Leona is also survived by one sister, Virginia (Bill) Webb and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband, Alan Spencer Nixon and one son, Alan Nixon.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 19th at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Ronald Maines officiating. Interment will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
