MIDDLEPORT — Thomas Robert Schleef, Sr., age 68, of Middleport, entered into rest on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Medina Memorial Hospital. Born April 11, 1942 in Medina, he was the son of Theodore Schleef and the late Dorothy (Pech) Schleef.
Tom graduated from Akron High School in 1961. He entered the United States Army March 11, 1964 and served in Vietnam until March 7, 1966 when he was honorable discharged. He received the Marksman Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He married Barbara J. Johnston December 5, 1980 in St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. He worked at Delphi Thermal Systems in Lockport for 40 years, retiring in 2005. Tom was an Exempt member of the Wolcottsville Fire Company, charter member of the VFW Post #3180 of Akron and an avid bowler, horseshoe pitcher and Buffalo Bills Fan. He had lived in Middleport the past 30 years, previously of Wolcottsville.
Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara (Johnston) Schleef. Children, Thomas (Jennifer) Schleef Jr. of Richardston, TX, Amanda (Russell) Dimino of Hamlin, Anne (Brian Fillmore) Schleef of Gasport and Timothy Schleef of New York City, NY. Son of Theodore Schleef of Sanborn and the late Dorothy (Pech) Schleef. Grandfather of Sophie. Brother of Kathleen (Gerald) Walck of Sanborn, Janet (Arnold) Stahl of Wolcottsville and Michael (Kathie) Schleef of Wolcottsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main Street, Gasport, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Services will be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 6377 Wolcottsville Road, Akron, NY 14001 on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Bruce Donley officiating. Interment will be in St. Michaels Lutheran Cemetery, Akron, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Middleport Fire Company.
