William H. Birmingham, 60,
of 1350 North Ave, former
Fire Department captain and
a firefighter for 39 years, died
today (June-7, 1958) after an
apparent heart attack. He had
been in failing health for some
time.
Mr.- Birmingham, pronounced
dead upon arrival at Mt. St.
Mary's Hospital, was stricken at
his home at 8:30 a.m. Firemen
administered oxygen for 17 minutes.
Born in Buffalo, he came to
this city with his family in 1898,
He joined thjc Fire Department at
19 years of. age in 1917. Four
years later, he was appointed an
engineer and in 1934 he was appointed
captain. He retired in
1945.
Mr. Birmingham was a member
of Sacred Heart Church and
Niagara Lodge No. 838, Loyal
Order of Moose. He was a veteran
of World War 1 and saw
service in France.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Beatrice L. Birmingham, and a
daughter, Mrs. Betty Jean, this
city; two brothers, Frank and Jo-
seph D. Birmingham, both Niag-
are Fals firefighters; one sister,
Mrs. Edward Rozyczko, this city,
and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the
Redanz Funeral Home and at
9:45 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
Burial will be in Gatae of Heaven
Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m.
Sunday.
