NIAGARA FALLS — Eleanor May (Allen) Call, age 93, of Niagara Falls, formerly of Pekin, was called to her eternal home to be with her Lord on August 28, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Nicknamed "Nonny", she was born August 13, 1917, in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Harry and Anna (nee Hanson) Allen. She grew up in a loving Christian family with two sisters and two brothers, attending the First Baptist Church on Main and Fourth Streets. She was united in marriage to Gordon Call on September 27, 1935. He was called to his eternal home in January 1977. Eleanor and Gordy were active with the LaSalle Yacht Club, Squadronettes, the Thespian Club at Pierce Avenue Presbyterian Church and later at Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church, where they enjoyed playing in the hand bell choir. Eleanor remained active for many years at Bacon Memorial, in the Pairs 'n Spares Club and the Evershed Ladies League. She volunteered with the Sunday School, was on the Christian Education Committee, Board of Deacons, sang in the choir and church secretary for several years. Eleanor loved gardening and working at her nephew's greenhouse - Sanborn Greenhouses. She loved reading and was a literacy volunteer.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy (late William) Goater, Ethel (late William) Owler and one brother, George (late Dorothy) Allen; five nieces and seven nephews. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Warren (wife Shirley) Allen and Ralph Allen.
Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Peck on Friday at 11:00 AM in the Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church, 166-59th Street, Niagara Falls. Interment will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
