- RUTH E. REEDY, 93 ROCKFORD - Ruth E. Reedy, 93, of Rockford died Tuesday morning at home. Born May 4, 1922, to August L. and Flora C. (Laur) Schul in Niagara Falls, New York. Married Roger Reedy on June 15, 1946, and moved to Rockford a few years later. While raising her 5 children, Ruth occasionally worked as a banquet waitress at the Faust Hotel. Once her children were grown, Ruth worked for St. Patrick School as the Director of the Resource Center for 15 years. After retiring, she went on to volunteer at St. Patrick and later at St. James School working with students. Until recently, she was very active in Charity Guild making quilted lap blankets for people in nursing homes, blankets for the homeless and collecting baby items for those in need. Ruth loved playing bridge, dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her contagious smile, kind spirit and great sense of humor. Survivors include children, Jerry Reedy, Joanne Lewis, Ruthann Love, Kathleen (Bruce) Schuenke; daughters-in-law, Mickie Reedy, Barb Reedy; son-in-law, Chris Lewis; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dell) Torgerson, Amy (Jamie) Pickens, Jeff (Lisa) Reedy, Niki Amling, Tera (Shane) Woody, Brian (Koula) Amling, Chad (Sandra) Reedy, Lynn (Tony) Scandroli, and Andrea (Jason) Wilkening; great-grandchildren, Rachael, Ian, Allison, Jacob, Jonah, Anastasia, Ava, Kellen, Stella, Megan, Jordan, Owen, Zeke, Ben, Wyatt, Emma, Leo and Jarrett; sister, Anita P. Ward; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother and father; husband, Roger; son, Tim; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters. Thanks to VNA Hospice for their care and a special thanks to her in-home caregiver, DiSu. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Avenue, Loves Park, IL 61111, with Fr. Keith Romke officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a wake service starting at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue. Visitation also Saturday morning at church from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice, 4223 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108 or the Catholic Women's League/Charity Guild.
